Real talk, portraiture is my favorite kind of photography.
Something about the process allows so much potential for creative expression and capturing authentic emotion. I’m also a firm believer that everyone should have at least one portrait of themselves that makes them feel amazing, and I love being able to give that to people.
Practically, most of my portrait work is either for weddings, engagement shoots, or professional headshots (usually for actors, musicians, and other creatives). I don’t really do studio portraiture, with the backdrops and intricate lighting setups, preferring instead to work with natural lighting and settings to create images that are authentic and organic.
Typically setting up a portrait session with me starts with working together to select a great outdoor location and agreeing on a time (I prefer the lighting in the early-to-mid mornings, and then the hour or two before sunset). Then we meet up and basically just go for a walk, stopping along the way to take advantage of interesting settings and great lighting. I usually don’t do much specific posing, but am definitely down to give a little more direction for those folks who aren’t experienced or comfortable with having their photo taken. In all honesty, I am one of those folks. I am much more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it, so I am familiar with those feelings and have some tips and tricks to make it fun and easy for everyone!
I have a few standard portraiture “packages”, but typically just work out custom packages for my clients based on their budget, schedule, and the number of finished photos they would like to receive.
STEP 1: REACH OUT
Maybe you’ve got a specific vision in mind, and maybe you don’t. That’s cool. Shoot me an email and let’s chat about it.
Are you an actor, dancer, etc looking for “Industry Standard” headshots? I’ve got you.
Maybe you’d like a more casual, lifestyle shoot of you in your studio? Sounds great!
Trying to surprise your boo with a little portrait session? How cool!
Just shoot me an email.
STEP 2: LET’S MAKE A PLAN
We’ll chat about your budget, your schedule, and how many finished images you’re looking for.
Then we’ll pick a day and an awesome location, and sort out any other details!
STEP 3: MAKE IT OFFICIAL
A signed photography agreement and a 50% retainer reserves your session!
Don’t worry about finding a printer, a checkbook, or - god forbid - a fax machine! You can take care of everything quickly, easily, and securely online!
STEP 4: SHOW UP, HAVE FUN
We’re going to have a blast! But let me know if you’re feeling nervous, and I can help you work through it.
You’re going to do great!
STEP 5: PHOTO PARTY!
Within a couple days of your session, you’ll get some teaser images. Then before you know it, the rest of your gallery will hit your inbox!
From there, you can download high-res files, order prints, create an artisan-quality photo book, or share the images to social media!
