Chasing Waterfalls with Addie + George at Crabtree Falls
I think every photographer has a location “wishlist” of places they’d love to shoot (or shoot again!) that they keep in their back pocket on the off-chance a client says, “We’re not set on a location, we just want to go somewhere cool.” Well, when Addie and George said they wanted to have an adventure engagement, but they didn’t really mind where, I threw the list at them - a carefully selected wishlist full of swamps, remote beaches, mountaintops, and waterfalls.
They chose waterfalls, and we set off for Crabtree Falls in the George Washington National Forest, not far past Charlottesville, VA. Crabtree Falls is the tallest waterfall East of the Mississippi River, and I’d be lying if that that wasn’t weighing on my mind a little bit as Addie and George clambered enthusiastically over the slippery rocks. On the way back to Richmond, not far from the falls, we passed through a tiny little mountain “town” and stopped to check out an adorable, ornate little church that George had seen before. Lo and behold, behind the church was a huge field of tall wildflowers that was just calling our names.
Once we piled back in the truck, the skies opened up into a gorgeous summer thunderstorm - as if to say, “That’s enough! You’ve had your fun!”. And that’s true, we had.
